This week brought dramatic winter scenes as the first snow of the season blanketed the Highlands. From charming snowy landscapes to experimenting with depth of field on a gloomy day, each image captures the beauty of this chilly week. Here’s a look at the moments I documented each day.
Day 321: The Snow is Approaching the Highlands
The temperatures were dropping steadily until, on Day 321, the first snow arrived. The following day, I had a photo session booked and was closely monitoring the weather forecast. Despite my busy schedule preparing studio equipment for the on-location shoot, I managed to capture this outdoor image, embracing the onset of winter.
Day 322: First Day of Snow
Early in the morning, I travelled to Stonehaven for a personal branding photo session. On the return journey, the snow began falling heavily—a stunning yet slightly nerve-wracking experience for driving. Once home, after unloading my equipment into the porch, I snapped this image to complete my daily photography task.
Day 323: Frozen Day
Under a sunny yet bitterly cold sky, I spent most of the day editing photos from the previous day’s session. Needing a break, I stepped outside into the freezing wind to capture today’s image. The biting temperatures made my face hurt, but this shot perfectly shows the icy conditions.
Day 324: Westhill Under the Snow
Snow days are rare, so I try to make the most of them by taking as many photos as possible. Although it was still windy and bitterly cold, enduring the discomfort was worth it to preserve these memories. A snowy stroll is not only charming but also a fantastic workout—my legs reminded me of this the next day!
Day 325: Below 0 Degrees
With strong winds and rain forecast to wash away the snow, I made sure to capture the last remnants of this enchanting winter scene. It was -1°C when I recorded some Instagram Stories and took this image.
Day 326: Playing with Depth of Field
Saturday mornings are for slow starts. Waking up between 8 and 9 am with coffee in bed, I noticed the dim light and heard icy rain hitting the windowpane. With no improvement in the weather, I resorted to my studio for the day’s photo. Experimenting with depth of field and a book, I created an image that captures the stillness of a rainy, snowy weekend.
Day 327: Making a Wreath with Friends
On Sunday, I started the day early, working on this blog. In the afternoon, I joined my lovely neighbour and her guests for a wreath-making gathering at her home.
Before heading over, I went to my garden to cut some greenery to share. While there, I captured this image of my garden as the sunlight beautifully illuminated the trees.
Below, you can see the wreath I made today, alongside a delightful drink prepared by my neighbour. Made with citrus fruits, mango, ginger, and spices, it was absolutely delicious! This photo was taken with my phone.
The challenge of capturing daily images during harsh conditions only adds to the satisfaction of completing this journey. Each photo tells a story of resilience, creativity, and the magic of winter.
